MMC could not create the snap in (IIS)

I have seen this a few times on Win 2003 boxes with IIS 6. Sometimes opening the Inetmgr gives a red X and the error MMC could not create the snap in. As usual, searching on Google for this error gives a page of hits of forums full of dumb guesses including re-install windows.

The error is due to the inetmgr.dll not being properly registered. To register it and move on use this command from a command prompt:

regsvr32 %windir%\system32\inetsrv\inetmgr.dll

Find which user has stolen my account!

As employees leave companies, their accounts in Active Directory are often disabled and their mail forwarded or changed to another user. One of my customers had a scenario where their domain names were registered under an old employee's email address and they need to get the email up so they could re-register on the registrar's website.

I found the user and tried to re-enable the deleted mail so I could send the password reminder but Exchange created a new mail account (not the original). So the user now had User2@company.com as their email. When I tried to add the old email to the email address list, I got the message:

This e-mail already exists in this orginization ID no: c10312e7 Microsoft Active Directory - Exchange Extension

So I had to go looking for the user who had stolen this email address. I guess in many orginizations, they just re-assign the email to someone else so they can get double the spam instead of asking someone to actually monitor a second mailbox for a month or so. Googling gives a microsoft article that just doesn't work. Don't even bother reading it.

Finally, I found the solution in another long forum thread from a Microsoft MVP, Rich Matheisen . Here it is:

Open Active Directory (Users and Computers)

1. Right click on your directory and choose find.

2. In the drop down beside the Find: heading choose Custom Search

3. Choose the Advanced tab

4. Enter proxyaddresses=smtp:user@company.com where user@company.com is the email you were trying to add.

5. Find the theif and steal the address back!

Denmark is Europe's most expensive country

I know this is not a secret but Eurostat, the EU's statistics agency, has found that Denmark is Europe's most expensive country.

The danish investment newspaper, Børsen, has a good article on it here: http://borsen.dk/privatokonomi/nyhed/161838/

See a translated version here.

What this confirms for me though is something I've been saying for a long time and that is the Danes are suffering with an overall lower standard of living than the others in Europe. Of course, Denmark is a clean and safe place but coupled with low average salaries for skilled trades, high taxes, and the highest expenses, the Danes' standard of living is dismal.

Mind you, if you don't mind living in a 40 m2 government provided apartment, drinking all day or being a student until you're 40 (or all of the above) Denmark is the place for you.

Blackstone Single Malt

Sometimes I buy liquor at Aldi.

I know, this is a confession fit for either AA meetings or the welfare line but I found one little interesting treasure in Aldi... the Blackstone Single Malt. It used to be 12 years but they just released a 15 year old. A lot of people will turn their nose up at the Aldi Single Malt as it is delivered in a very generic bottle and priced at only 139kr.

However, this whisky is certainly distilled at one of the distilleries in Scotland... Maybe not a famous one and maybe not a good one. But you won't find a single malt from the worst distillery for less than 300 kr. here. And the beauty of the Blackstone is that, since you don't know where it's coming from you can't judge it by anything except how it tastes. You can't even be sure that you get the same malt from bottle to bottle so you are truly relying on your tastebuds to decide whether you like this whisky or not.

I for one, have not been disappointed. It's not always great and certainly not always the same but ALWAYS worth the money.

2 IS better than one

Before we got our new daughter, Joanna, I read a bunch of articles and some research suggesting that people recieve no more joy from the second child than they did the first.

I can tell you flat out that this is NOT the case... at least for me. I am so happy to have her in my life. Every child is a gift.

I will try to post some pictures of our 'little bear' here soon.
